Drafty for Mac

Clipboard, screenshots, and recording that polishes itself — one free app.

A tiny menu-bar app for macOS: a searchable clipboard history, region capture with markup, and screen recording that auto-zooms to your clicks and lands on a clean background. Everything you’d normally pay for across three separate apps — together, and free.

⌘⇧4 · Capture

Grab any region, instantly

A native crosshair selects any part of the screen and the shot is on your clipboard before you let go — no save dialog, no folder full of files.

Mark it up before you send

Box and text tools with undo and redo — point at the exact thing that’s wrong, then hit Copy. The markup bakes right into the image.

⌘⇧5 · Record

Record a window or any region

Press Space to grab a single window the way you’d take a screenshot, or drag any region. Narrate with your mic and mark up live with a pen that fades — clicks and all bake into the video.

Auto-zoom

Zoom to the click, automatically

Drafty follows your clicks with a smooth camera move — not a jump cut — pushing in on whatever you’re pointing at and easing back out when you move on. The emphasis a good demo needs, with nothing to edit.

Notes
Backgrounds · Export

On a clean background, in any shape

Set the recording on a gradient or solid backdrop with rounded corners and a soft shadow, then export the shape you need — 16:9 for anywhere, square for X, vertical for Reels and Shorts.

Three tools’ worth, free

Maccy, CleanShot and Screen Studio — in one app

Maccy manages your clipboard, CleanShot does screenshots and recording, and Screen Studio does the auto-zoom-and-background polish. Drafty does the core of all three — in one menu-bar app, for free.

CleanShot keeps a history of your captures, not a general clipboard. Screen Studio’s deeper timeline editing is beyond Drafty’s scope — Drafty covers the auto-zoom and backgrounds. OCR, scrolling capture and cloud sharing are on Drafty’s list.
